Yes, you are not mistaken. Back in December, I signed my contract saying I will not be staying for another year. And So, after what will be three years in Japan, (four if you count my year at university) my Japanese adventure will come to an end.
Since August 2014 I have been working in Nagasaki as an ALT, or assistant language teacher. Bringing English fun and games to children in elementary and junior high. The more I think about it, the harder I realise it’s going to be to say goodbye. I just love my students! But this is the right decision for me. Despite still loving Japan and wishing I had more time to explore this wonderful country more, I need to start focusing on becoming a writer. With each day I find myself a little less focused on my current job. My brain is full of stories and blog posts I’m itching to write. I know the path I’ve chosen won’t be easy, but I’m ready to head it face on.
So where to next?
This really is a question, isn’t it? As of right now, it seems like I will be heading back to the UK for about a year or so, a decision I have mixed feelings about. While on the one side I love my family and friends and am excited to be in the land of Wales once more, leaving Chad (who will be travelling back to Canada for work) is going to be difficult. As plans stand right now, however, I will hopefully be moving to Canada in 2018. Fingers crossed it all works out!
Leaving my friends and students here in Japan is going to be so hard, but I know deep in my heart I’ve made the right decision. So, with my time coming to an end, I am determined to make the last few months really count! So far I’ve planned a trip to Okinawa, booked tickets to see The Lumineers (I honestly can’t wait!). I’m also planning to get my first tattoo in commemoration of my life here in Japan.
If anyone has anymore must do’s you think I should add to my ‘Let’s make the last few months count’ list, let me know in the comments below!
