Can You Hear Me? A Poem
Can you hear me?
Do you ever feel like your words are disappearing into the void?
As if you had never said them at all?
Sometimes I wonder if I’m even real.
If my words are tangible with syllables and meaning.
If I screamed at the top of my lungs would the air around me reverberate?
Or remain undisturbed?
If you can hear me, answer.
As a child, I learnt the power of my voice.
Of words and laughter and song.
As an adult, I’ve learned what little meaning they have,
And just how small they have become.
Do you ever feel like perhaps you never spoke at all?
Is it all just a dream?
Anyone at all…
And that you don’t really exist at all.
