Dear young girls,
Today is the day we celebrate you.
I am sorry that it cannot be every day.
I’m sorry that we need to have a day designated for you; it should be every day.
There may be days when you are looked down upon.
Where you are told your voice is too loud, too opinionated.
Before you are old enough to understand why, your worth may be measured by the size of your weight and the symmetry of your face.
For this and so much more, I am sorry.
I am sorry that society has not evolved for you.
I am sorry that you may have to fight for your voice to be heard.
That growing up is not always as fantastical as you had hoped it would be.
But please know this.
You are more than your weight and your words carry miles.
They are worthy and long to be heard.
Know that you are smart.
You are valid and your thoughts are beautiful.
YOU are beautiful.
So here is to you, and your incandescent soul.
A celebration of all that you are and will ever become.
The world is a better place because of you.
Happy International Girls day everyone!! I hope you feel proud of who you are, and who you hope to become. Not every day will shine brightly on you, but you are strong enough to make it shine for you. You are a blessing.
