Hello my lovelies, and a very belated Happy New Year to you all. Or, as we say in Wales, Blwyddyn Newydd Dda. It’s 2018!!
The last six months of my life have gone by in a flash, and I honestly cannot believe that 2018 is already here. I can officially now say that I am getting married next year, which is something I’ve been strangely looking forward to. It all feels a little more real now.
But back to 2017 for a moment.
2017 was a fantastic year for me. Don’t get me wrong, there were some considerable bumps along the way, but all in all, the good far outweighed the bad.
I celebrated the new years in Canada with some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met, got my first tattoo while on a girls trip where we visited Amaterasu’s shrine and stayed at a temple on Mt.Koya. I (somehow) climbed Mt.Fuji and my mother got engaged. I met my new baby cousin and watched as my own cousin became a mother to two beautiful twins. Chad and I spent an amazing weekend away in Tokyo and saw the Lumineers live and cultivated beautiful friendships both new and old.
A lot of life changing events also took place; I was accepted to do an MA in Creative Writing at the University of my dreams. When I got the e-mail of acceptance I honestly couldn’t believe it. I just kept reading and re-reading the e-mail, terrified it was all just wishful thinking. As excited as I was, however, this meant that I had to leave Japan in August, and my breathtaking four-year journey came to a close. It also meant the start of Chad and I’s long-distance relationship. That part, I am not so happy about.
But my favourite moment, of all of 2017, is when Chad got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.
No matter what painful things happened in 2017, I will never be able to look back on it with anything other than happiness.
As late as this post is, I just want to thank everyone who made 2017 such a memorable year. It was the year of friendship, love and new beginnings, and while I am sad it came to an end, I am so so excited for the year ahead of me.
