Wake up Slowly
I love to start my rainy days off slowly, laying in bed as the rain falls around me outside, pitter-pattering against my windows in a beautiful symphony of natural harmonies. I close my eyes and fall back to sleep if I’m lucky, always wanting to make the most of this peaceful time to recharge my batteries.
Rainy days, however, wouldn’t be complete without that warm cup of tea to hold between my hands and keep me warm as the chilly air seeps into the house and my bones. Depending on my mood, I take my little tea date to either the couch or back to my bed, wanting to be as comfortable as possible.
Do something for you.
Whenever it rains, it feels like the world slows down for once. People huddle indoors and grow lethargic as the sun hides away behind fat clouds as the heavens open. It’s at times like these when I like to do something for me. Whether it’s curling up with a film, a good book or getting on with that travel journal I’ve been promising myself to finish, I love to just take some time and do something for my own well being. I always find it easier to be kind to myself when it’s raining.
Jeans? What Jeans?
Another key essential to having the ultimate relaxed rainy day is comfortable clothing. As soon as I hear the sound of rain, I know exactly what my outfit of the day will be. A large fluffy sweater with leggings and fluffy socks, the perfect combination of cozy; a cwtch in fabric form.
Take a nap
Why not? With the world playing a personalised lullaby just for you, take the time to just relax into your comfortable chair and just slide back to dream land. Chances are you need it. With the world being busier than every and expectation at an all time high (especially for us millennials), there no shame in getting a little extra shut eye.
If solitude isn’t your thing, grab a rain partner.
While many of us revel in time spent alone, many don’t, and that’s fine. Maybe you don’t live alone. A lack of solitude doesn’t take away from your relaxing day.On the contrary, it could even make it better. Ask whoever you’re with to join you, to commit to doing nothing; to put themselves first and enjoy the reprieve that nature has presented them with. As much as I love lounging around by myself, there is nothing better than grabbing my loved ones and enveloping them in the tranquillity; inviting them to do nothing with me under the softest blanket I can find.
