On February 14th (technically 15th), three years ago, I sat outside my old apartment building blabbering about nonsense while the ever loving Chad waiting for me to confess my feelings. This year we are celebrating our first valentines/anniversary as an engaged couple. Oh, how time flies.
Since we enjoy any excuse to get cosy and sickeningly loving together, Chad and I have made sure to do something special for our anniversaries. The first year we took a small trip to Kyoto while last year we went to a fancy restaurant followed by a sneaky McDonalds. This year, however, it was a 5 minute Skype call due to time difference and work. Despite feeling sad at our distance, I was surprised at how content I was to just see his face. Never mind the cards and fancy wine, just seeing Chad and spending a moment to tell each other how much we loved one another was enough for me.
Celebrating landmarks when you are on different continents is never going to be easy and more often than not there are a lot of tears. But I’ve come to realise something important. So long as you keep in contact and give each other the time of day and never stop saying how much you miss and love them, everything will work out.
That being said, I can’t wait to celebrate our anniversary next year, hopefully, in his arms, doing something fun and memorable. Perhaps next year we will skip the fancy dinner all together and just dress up and go to McDonald’s. What do you say Chad?
These past three years have been so amazing and I am so excited to see what the future holds. While long distance is difficult and we’ve had a few face-time sessions with me in tears, I know it’s all worth it. So, Happy Anniversary/Valentine’s Day, Chad. I love you.
And a BIG Happy Valentines to everyone in long distance relationships, I hope you were all able to spend some quality internet time with the ones you love.
I hope you all had a wonderful time. Sending you all my love and good thoughts.
