This post may seem rather unprecedented, popping up until March, but there is a reason. Ever since the clock struck midnight on 2017, I’ve scratched my brain looking for a word to use as my mantra for the new year. Until now, nothing came to mind. Every word seemed frivolous as it hung off my lips, a byproduct of mainstream social media. Hustle is a great example for this. Overused and impersonal, wherever I look it’s plastered on everyone’s twitter feeds along with pictures trying to be inspirational.
No, I knew I needed something a little more personal, something I could breathe to myself without feeling awkwardly cliche. The only problem was, I had no idea what my word would be. I had no idea what this year meant to me other than being busy. It was then, as I was walking around my house, head pounding with questions thanks to a sudden bought of insecurity when it hit me; Growth.
This year would be about growth. Growing into myself as a person. Growing into the life I have begun to carve for myself. I want to grow as a person and a writer. As a girlfriend and friend. I want to grow my audience on my blog, and plant beautiful plants in charming pots to sit on my windowsill.
Humans cannot grow confined in the same space, and I fear I have been standing in the same place for so long. Ever since I’ve found my word, I truly have felt a little bit more at ease. It’s funny how words affect us so much.
I hope you liked this sporadic little post, I just wanted to share this with you. Please feel free to share your mantra for 2017 in the comment section below, and if you don’t have one, why not have a little think, it may just come in handy.
