As I was walking to the bus stop this morning, I thought about my blog and what was missing from it. It took me a moment before it dawned on me; women. I need to talk more about women and their strengths, about feminism. I wondered what I should write about. Feminist books, blogs, movies. It was then then the words ‘Feminist Five’ popped into my brain, like the bursting of a bubble, releasing an idea upon me. I would start a new series! A feminist series, dedicated to all things empowering and equalising. Since I am currently in the process of reading more feminist literature and thus postponing the book portion of this new section of my blog, I thought I would start with bloggers.
Brave and honest in their writing, these five bloggers have given the world the kind of blogs I wish I had read as a young girl growing up in a world where double standards is a pill forced down throats. To check out their blogs, just click on their header images to redirect you. Enjoy!
Cattitude and co. is easily one of my favourite blogs around, run by the ever talented Tara. Raw and unapologetic, she writes about everything, from lifestyle and food to feminism and periods. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I think periods need to be discussed more, not just in the effort to remove the stigma, but also for health and awareness. With a fun layout filled with colourful hand drawn images, you can spend hours getting lost in this wonderland of women’s issues and vegetarian delights. She even has a youtube channel, so be sure to check her out by clicking >>>>HERE<<<<.
I love this blog, almost as much as I love it’s founder. For those of you who have never stumbled upon Rachel’s blog, quickly click now. Go along with Rachel as she blogs about her self confidence journey and owning her body. Inspiring in it’s honesty, her blog will have you wanting to start your own self love journey. She even has a cheeky post or two about sex, which is always fun to read about. But that’s not all folks! Rachel also blogs about a myriad of mental health issues ranging from medical care to counselling, and on the days when these seem a little heavy or too close to the bone, you can always check out her lifestyle and fashion post; she’s a right cutie!
Grab a glass of red and settle in for a night of much needed ‘me’ time. If you’re looking for a guilty pleasure to fill your friday evenings then Holly’s blog is the place to go. Clean and easy to navigate, with stunning photographs, it won’t take you long to find the Sex and fantasy category. As women, we usually reserve the sex topic for a night with the girls, keeping the conversation private and to ourselves. Holly, however, has taken to her blog and shared her wisdom and experiences with all of us, often on topics we wish we were brave to ask about. Informative and fun to read Holly’s blog is a maze I love getting lost in.
Honest to the T, Brooke’s blog is open and truthful. Addressing issues that are not always easy to think about, such as consent and sexual assault, Brooke’s blog is a bible of useful and must-know reads. A big recommendation for every girl (and boy)! She also blogs about other fun things, such as makeup and general lifestyle posts for those times when feminism, body positivity and all that good stuff is a little heavy for a nice relaxing evening. Not to mention she has a beautiful Instagram filled with gorgeous selfies. I’ve been following this blog for a while, and I always feel refreshed, empowered and informed after checking it out!
What can I say about this woman. Honest and brave, Nicole makes my list for her courage and conversation starting blog and side project #SpeakUp. As a fellow Mental Health blogger, Nicole is a constant source of inspiration and I always find myself typing her blog in my search bar during times of need. A big part of feminism is speaking up for what we belive in and Nicole has created a safe and supportive platform to do just that. Alongside her mental health posts, Nicole also blogs about topics from fashion to bullet journals. A prolific photographer, her blog is also jam packed with beautiful photographs. I just love this blog and I know you will too.
I hope you enjoyed the first post in this new series and check out all of these lovely ladies on this list. If you have anyone you would like to nominate for the next section, please don’t hesitate to comment below! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
