Description

Alabama Firecrackers are a spicy and savory snack that combines the crunch of crackers with bold, zesty flavors. Perfect for parties, road trips, or a quick bite at home, this recipe transforms simple pantry staples into an irresistible treat. With just a few ingredients and an overnight resting period, these crackers are easy to prepare and guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12 oz.) box of crackers (saltine or Ritz crackers)
  • ¾ cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. Italian seasoning
  • 3 tbsp. chili flakes

Instructions

  • Place the crackers in a large Ziploc bag.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together olive oil, Italian seasoning, and chili flakes.
  • Pour the mixture over the crackers in the Ziploc bag.
  • Seal the bag tightly, ensuring no air is trapped inside.
  • Gently shake and turn the bag until all crackers are evenly coated.
  • Leave the sealed bag at room temperature overnight, flipping it occasionally to redistribute the seasoning.
  • Serve with your favorite dip or enjoy on their own.

Notes

  • Adjust the Spice: Reduce chili flakes for a milder version or add cayenne for extra heat.
  • Storage: Keep the crackers in an airtight container for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them.
  • Customization: Swap Italian seasoning with ranch or Cajun seasoning for a unique twist.
  • Cracker Choice: While saltines are traditional, Ritz crackers or gluten-free alternatives work equally well.
