Boozy Orange Creamsicle Float: A Perfect Summer Drink

  • Author: Naomi
  • Total Time: 5 min

Description

A grown-up twist on the classic creamsicle float—bright, fizzy orange soda mingles with creamy vanilla ice cream and a splash of vodka (or rum), creating a frosty, dreamy beverage that tastes like sunshine in a glass. Effortless to make and endlessly refreshing, it’s the ultimate sippable treat for hot days (and warm evenings!).

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups orange soda (chilled)

  • 4 scoops high-quality vanilla ice cream

  • 3 oz vanilla-flavored vodka (or white rum)

  • 1 oz triple sec (optional, for extra orange depth)

  • Orange slices or maraschino cherries, for garnish

  • Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish

Instructions

1️⃣ Chill the glasses:
Pop two tall glasses (12–16 oz) into the freezer for 5 minutes to get them nicely frosty.

2️⃣ Add the booze:
Divide the vodka (and triple sec, if using) between the chilled glasses.

3️⃣ Scoop the ice cream:
Place two scoops of vanilla ice cream into each glass, gently pressing down so there’s room for soda.

4️⃣ Pour the soda:
Slowly pour 1 cup of orange soda into each glass, letting it fizz up around the ice cream. Pour in stages—stop to allow foam to settle, then top off.

5️⃣ Garnish & serve:
Thread an orange slice or cherry onto a cocktail pick and rest it on the rim. Slap a mint sprig between your hands and tuck it alongside. Serve immediately with a wide straw and long spoon.

Notes

  • Non-Alcoholic Version: Omit the vodka and triple sec; replace with an extra splash of orange soda or a little vanilla syrup.

  • Creamier Float: Use orange-vanilla cream soda in place of plain orange soda for even more richness.

  • Ice Cream Swap: Try blood-orange sorbet or a vanilla-orange gelato for a flavor twist.

  • Make-Ahead Garnish: Prep orange wheels and mint sprigs up to 2 hours ahead; keep chilled.

  • Extra Citrus Zing: Grate a little fresh orange zest over the top before serving.

  • Spiked Variations: Substitute coconut rum for a tropical flair, or add a dash of Aperol for a subtle bitter-orange note.
