Description

Bubble Up Biscuit Pizza Casserole is a delightful and easy-to-make dish that brings together all the best elements of pizza into a comforting, cheesy casserole. This recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or when you need to feed a crowd, offering a satisfying and flavorful meal with minimal prep time. With its fluffy buttermilk biscuits, tangy pizza sauce, and gooey mozzarella cheese, this casserole is sure to be a hit with family and friends alike. Plus, it’s incredibly versatile, allowing you to customize it with your favorite pizza toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (See Notes)
  • 1 (15oz) jar pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Pizza toppings of choice (e.g., pepperoni, Italian sausage, vegetables)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Open the cans of refrigerated biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters using a pizza cutter or knife.
  • Evenly spread the biscuit pieces across the bottom of the prepared baking dish, arranging them in a single layer.
  • Use a spoon or small spatula to evenly spread the pizza sauce over the biscuit pieces.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
  • Add your chosen pizza toppings, distributing them evenly over the cheese.
  • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven, uncovered, for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are cooked through and the cheese is bubbling and beginning to brown. Check the center for doneness as it takes the longest to cook.
  • Allow the casserole to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Biscuits: Using refrigerated buttermilk biscuits is recommended for their convenience and texture. They provide the right balance of fluffiness and tanginess that complements the pizza flavors. Avoid flaky-layer biscuits as they may not rise and bake evenly in this casserole.
  • Toppings: Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences. Classic options like pepperoni and Italian sausage are always great, but you can also experiment with vegetables, different cheeses, or even herbs to make the dish your own.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave to maintain the casserole’s texture and flavor.
  • Freezing: The casserole can be frozen for up to 2-3 months. Assemble and freeze before baking for best results, or freeze after baking and fully cooling. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
