Cheese Stuffed Breadsticks

  • Author: Christine

Description

These Cheese-Stuffed Breadsticks are a mouthwatering blend of soft, chewy dough wrapped around gooey, melted cheese, all seasoned to perfection with garlic, Italian herbs, and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish, they’re ideal for game days, parties, or family dinners. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce, like marinara or ranch, for an extra burst of flavor. Whether you make the dough from scratch or use store-bought, these breadsticks are easy to customize and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 12 sticks of string cheese or 12 ounces of your favorite cheese, cut into sticks
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Divide the pizza dough into 12 equal pieces. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a rectangle approximately 4×3 inches.
  2. Add Cheese: Place a stick of cheese on the shorter end of each dough rectangle. Roll the dough tightly around the cheese, pinching the edges to seal and tucking in the ends.
  3. Season: Combine melted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning in a small bowl. Brush the mixture over the breadsticks, then sprinkle with grated Parmesan if using.
  4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Serve: Allow the breadsticks to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

For best results, ensure that the dough is sealed tightly around the cheese to prevent leakage during baking. If you’re short on time, you can prepare the breadsticks in advance and bake them just before serving. For a lighter version, consider using part-skim mozzarella and reducing the amount of butter in the seasoning. These breadsticks are also easily adaptable for gluten-free diets—simply substitute with gluten-free pizza dough. Enjoy experimenting with different cheeses, herbs, and even sweet fillings for a unique twist on this classic recipe!
