  • Author: Naomi
  • Total Time: 30 min

Description

A hearty one-pan pasta dish loaded with tender penne, savory garlic butter ground beef, and melty cheese. This is the perfect weeknight comfort food—easy, cheesy, and utterly satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale

For the pasta:

  • 12 oz penne pasta

  • Water for boiling

  • Salt for pasta water

For the ground beef:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 tbsp olive oil (if needed)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

For the sauce:

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the pasta:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2️⃣ Brown the beef:
In a large skillet, heat olive oil if needed. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is soft, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

3️⃣ Add garlic and seasoning:
Stir in the minced garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

4️⃣ Make the garlic butter sauce:
Add butter and let it melt into the beef mixture. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer for 2-3 minutes.

5️⃣ Combine pasta and cheese:
Add the cooked penne to the skillet and toss to coat. Stir in mozzarella and Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.

6️⃣ Serve:
Sprinkle with red pepper flakes and chopped parsley if using. Serve hot and cheesy!

Notes

  • Drain beef well after browning to avoid a greasy sauce—especially important for a smooth, cheesy finish.

  • Use freshly grated cheese for better melt and flavor than pre-shredded varieties.

  • Simmer the beef broth briefly to let flavors meld before adding the pasta and cheese.
