Crunchy Apple Boats

  • Author: Christine

Description

Crunchy Apple Boats are a delightful and nutritious snack that combines the natural sweetness and crispness of apples with a variety of flavorful toppings. These fun and customizable treats are perfect for kids and adults alike, making them an ideal choice for parties, after-school snacks, or picnics. Easy to make and visually appealing, Crunchy Apple Boats offer a creative way to enjoy healthy ingredients in a playful, boat-shaped design.

Ingredients

  • Apples – Each apple makes two boats
  • Your favorite spread – Choose from peanut butter, honey, sun butter, or Nutella
  • Puffed rice or Rice Bubbles
  • Cheese – For the sails
  • Toothpicks – To attach the cheese sails

Instructions

  • Preparing the Apples:
    • Wash the apples thoroughly.
    • Cut each apple in half lengthwise and remove the core using a small spoon or melon baller.
    • Ensure the cut surface is flat to help the boats stay upright.
  • Spreading the Topping:
    • Choose your favorite spread (peanut butter, honey, sun butter, or Nutella) and evenly spread it over the flat, cut surface of each apple half.
    • Keep the spread slightly away from the edges to prevent it from dripping.
  • Adding the Puffed Rice:
    • Sprinkle puffed rice or Rice Bubbles over the spread. Gently press them down to ensure they stick.
    • For variation, consider adding granola, crushed nuts, or cereal instead of puffed rice.
  • Creating the Cheese Sails:
    • Cut slices of cheese into triangular shapes or other fun designs to resemble sails.
    • Insert a toothpick through the bottom edge of the cheese slice, then attach it to the apple boat by pressing the toothpick into the top of the apple.
    • Ensure the sail stands upright; if it doesn’t, try using a thicker slice of cheese.

Notes

Crunchy Apple Boats are best served fresh to maintain their crispness. If you need to prepare them ahead of time, store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container to keep the apples from browning. For added fun, let kids decorate their own boats with different spreads and toppings, making snack time a creative and interactive experience.
