Description
This grilled cheese sandwich stars a garlic-buttered crust that’s crisp and aromatic, hugging melted cheese and optional goodies like tomato or ham. Perfectly golden, cheesy, and ultra-flavorful!
Ingredients
-
4 slices of thick-cut bread (like sourdough or country-style)
-
4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
-
2 garlic cloves, minced
-
1 tsp fresh parsley (chopped) or ½ tsp dried parsley
-
4 slices cheddar cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)
-
Optional fillings:
-
4 tomato slices
-
2 slices cooked ham or turkey
-
2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese for extra crispiness
-
Instructions
1️⃣ Prep garlic butter:
In a small bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley. Mix well.
2️⃣ Butter the bread:
Spread garlic butter on one side of each bread slice. If using Parmesan, sprinkle it over the buttered side now.
3️⃣ Heat the pan:
Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. This helps the bread toast evenly without burning.
4️⃣ Build the sandwich:
Place two bread slices butter-side down in the skillet. Top each with a slice of cheese, optional tomato or ham, then another slice of cheese. Top with the remaining bread slices butter-side up.
5️⃣ Grill the sandwich:
Cook for 3–4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and cheese starts to melt. Press gently with a spatula.
6️⃣ Flip & finish:
Carefully flip each sandwich and cook another 2–3 minutes until the other side is golden and the cheese is fully melted.
7️⃣ Rest & serve:
Remove from pan, let sit 1 minute (for better cheese melt), slice in half, and serve hot.
