Description
The German Chocolate Poke Cake is a rich and decadent dessert that combines the classic flavors of German chocolate cake with a twist. This moist and flavorful cake is infused with sweetened condensed milk and caramel, topped with a creamy coconut-pecan frosting and a layer of Cool Whip.
Ingredients
1 box German chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
1 jar (12 oz) caramel topping
1 container (16 oz) coconut-pecan frosting
1 container (8 oz) Cool Whip, thawed
1/2 cup sweetened shredded coconut, toasted
1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted
Instructions
Preheat Oven and Prepare Cake:
Preheat your oven and prepare the German chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions. Bake in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Poke Holes in Cake:
Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. Use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
Add Caramel Mixture:
In a bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and caramel topping. Pour this mixture evenly over the cake, making sure it seeps into the holes. Let the cake cool completely, allowing the caramel mixture to soak in.
Add Frosting Layer:
Once cooled, spread the coconut-pecan frosting evenly over the top of the cake.
Add Cool Whip:
Gently spread the Cool Whip over the frosting layer.
Add Toppings:
Sprinkle the toasted shredded coconut and chopped pecans evenly over the Cool Whip.
Refrigerate:
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to let the flavors meld together.
Notes
- Cake Mix: For the best results, use a high-quality German chocolate cake mix such as Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker.
- Cooling: Allow the cake to cool slightly before pouring the sweetened condensed milk and caramel mixture to prevent it from becoming too soggy.
- Even Distribution: Pour the filling slowly and evenly to ensure it seeps into all the poked holes.
- Frosting: For added flavor, consider toasting the coconut and pecans before adding them to the cake.
- Homemade Touch: If you prefer, you can use homemade caramel sauce instead of store-bought for a richer flavor.
