Description
These Homemade Butter Mints are soft, creamy, and deliciously nostalgic—just like the ones grandma used to make! With a smooth melt-in-your-mouth texture and refreshing peppermint flavor, they’re perfect for baby showers, weddings, holidays, or just as a sweet little treat anytime.
Ingredients
-
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
-
¼ tsp salt
-
4 cups powdered sugar (plus more for dusting)
-
1 tbsp heavy cream or milk
-
½ tsp peppermint extract (or vanilla for a milder flavor)
-
Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
1️⃣ Cream the butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and salt until smooth and fluffy.
2️⃣ Add sugar and flavoring: Gradually mix in powdered sugar, cream, and peppermint extract. Beat until a smooth, stiff dough forms. Add food coloring if desired and mix until evenly tinted.
3️⃣ Shape the mints: On a powdered sugar-dusted surface, divide the dough and roll into ropes about ½ inch thick. Cut into small bite-size pieces using a sharp knife or bench scraper.
4️⃣ Dry the mints: Place mints on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Let air dry at room temperature for at least 12 hours, or until firm on the outside.
5️⃣ Store: Once dry, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
