This Honey Butter Alabama Pecan Bread combines the sweetness of honey, the richness of butter, and the crunch of toasted pecans, creating a soft, moist bread that’s incredibly flavorful. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a dessert, this bread is easy to make and a true Southern treat!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for a touch of spice)

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted (for a deeper flavor)

For the Honey Butter Topping:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1/4 cup honey

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for extra flavor)

  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans (for garnish)

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan (8×4 inches) with butter or cooking spray, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

2️⃣ Toast the Pecans:

  • In a small skillet over medium heat, toast the pecans for 4-5 minutes until fragrant and slightly golden. Be sure to stir occasionally to avoid burning. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

3️⃣ Make the Bread Batter:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using).

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).

  • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  • Fold in the toasted pecans, saving a small handful for garnish.

4️⃣ Bake the Bread:

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.

  • Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top of the bread is getting too dark before the center is fully cooked, tent it loosely with aluminum foil and continue baking.

5️⃣ Make the Honey Butter Topping:

  • While the bread is baking, prepare the honey butter by whisking together the softened butter, honey, and cinnamon (if using) in a bowl until smooth and creamy.

  • Once the bread is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes in the pan. Then, transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely.

6️⃣ Serve and Enjoy:

  • Once the bread has cooled slightly, spread the honey butter generously on top of the warm bread. Sprinkle with the remaining toasted pecans for an extra touch of crunch.

  • Slice and serve as a delightful snack, dessert, or breakfast!

Notes

  • Pecans: If you don’t have pecans or want to mix it up, you can use walnuts, almonds, or even pistachios for a unique twist.

  • Make Ahead: The bread can be made ahead of time and stored at room temperature for 2-3 days. It also freezes well for up to a month. Just wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and foil before freezing.

  • Vegan Version: For a vegan version, substitute the butter with plant-based butter and use non-dairy milk, like almond milk. Use a flax egg (1 tablespoon ground flaxseed + 2.5 tablespoons water) instead of regular eggs.
