  • Author: Naomi

Description

Maple BBQ Hasselback Kielbasa Bites are a delightful and visually appealing appetizer that brings together the rich, smoky flavor of kielbasa with a sweet and tangy maple barbecue glaze.

Ingredients

1 pound kielbasa sausage
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
Pinch of salt
Chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Slice the kielbasa sausage crosswise into bite-sized pieces, ensuring not to cut all the way through; leave the bottom intact so that the slices stay connected.
In a small bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until well combined.
Place the sliced kielbasa sausage in a baking dish or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the barbecue sauce mixture over the top of the kielbasa, making sure to get it in between the slices.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the kielbasa is cooked through and caramelized on the edges.
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve warm as an appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • Choosing Kielbasa: Opt for a high-quality kielbasa with a good balance of meat and fat for the best results. Smoked kielbasa enhances the overall flavor, providing a robust and savory base that pairs well with the sweet and tangy glaze.
  • Hasselback Technique: To make uniform slices without cutting through the sausage completely, place wooden spoons or chopsticks on either side of the kielbasa as guides. This will ensure the slices stay connected at the bottom, creating the desired Hasselback effect.
  • Cooking Tips:
    • Air Fryer: For a quicker cooking time and a slightly charred finish, use an air fryer. Cook the bites at 400°F (200°C) for 7-9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.
    • Oven: If you prefer oven-baking, preheat to 425°F (220°C) and bake the kielbasa for 25-30 minutes. For extra caramelization, broil for the last 2-3 minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
