Description
This rich and gooey Neiman Marcus Cake—also known as Texas Gold Bars—is a buttery, decadent treat with a cream cheese topping that’s irresistibly sweet and tangy. Made with a cake mix base, it’s wonderfully simple to whip up and impossible to resist!
Ingredients
For the crust layer:
-
1 box yellow cake mix
-
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
-
1 large egg
For the cream cheese layer:
-
8 oz cream cheese, softened
-
2 large eggs
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
3 ¾ cups powdered sugar (1 box)
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
2️⃣ Make the crust: In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg until combined. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
3️⃣ Prepare cream cheese layer: In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until creamy. Gradually mix in powdered sugar until fully combined and fluffy.
4️⃣ Spread the topping: Pour the cream cheese mixture over the crust layer and spread evenly with a spatula.
5️⃣ Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden and set but still slightly gooey in the center. Don’t overbake—it should have a soft, custardy texture.
6️⃣ Cool and serve: Let the cake cool completely before cutting into squares or bars.
