Description

The Ultimate Dorito Taco Salad is a vibrant and flavorful dish that combines the classic elements of a taco salad with the crunchy, cheesy delight of Doritos. This recipe is a crowd-pleaser, perfect for family dinners, parties, and potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale

1 large bag Dorito Nacho Cheese Chips, broken (not crumbs) 🌽
1 pound lean ground beef 🥩
1 packet taco seasoning 🌮
1 red onion, diced 🧅
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded 🧀
1 head lettuce, shredded 🥬
6 tomatoes, chopped 🍅
½ cup Italian dressing 🥗
2 cups ranch dressing 🥛

Instructions

Brown ground beef in a skillet, drain fat.
Stir in taco seasoning and both dressings. Simmer until liquid is absorbed.
Prepare bowls of shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, diced onion, and shredded cheese.
For a communal salad, mix all ingredients with the meat. Alternatively, let everyone build their own salad from the bowls.
Add broken Doritos on top for that perfect crunch.

Notes

  • Make-Ahead Tips: To save time, the ground beef can be cooked and seasoned up to two days in advance and stored in the refrigerator. The vegetables can also be chopped and stored separately. Combine all the ingredients just before serving to maintain the freshness and crunch.
  • Customization: Feel free to add or substitute ingredients based on dietary needs or personal preference. Black beans, corn, avocado, and various cheeses are great additions or substitutions.
  • Dressing: The combination of ranch and Italian dressing offers a unique flavor, but don’t hesitate to experiment with other dressings like Catalina or a homemade lime-cilantro vinaigrette for a different twist.
  • Serving: For a fun and interactive dining experience, consider setting up a salad bar where guests can assemble their own salad, adding as much or as little of each ingredient as they like.
  • Storage: If you have leftovers, it’s best to store the salad components separately. The dressed salad can become soggy, especially the Doritos, so it’s recommended to combine them just before eating.
  • Healthier Options: For a lighter version, opt for lean ground turkey, low-fat cheese, and dressings, or increase the amount of vegetables. Baked tortilla chips can be a great alternative to traditional Doritos for those watching their calorie intake.
