The Crack Chicken Pierogi Casserole is a hearty, comforting dish that combines the creamy, savory flavors of Alfredo sauce, chicken, bacon, and ranch dressing mix with the unique texture of pierogies. Topped with a generous layer of melted cheddar cheese, this casserole is a crowd-pleaser that’s perfect for family dinners, potlucks, or any occasion where you want to serve something warm, filling, and bursting with flavor. Its easy preparation and ability to be made ahead make it a favorite among home cooks looking for a delicious, no-fuss meal.

Ingredients

2 (16-oz) packages frozen Classic Cheddar Pierogies, thawed
2 (15-oz) jars Alfredo sauce
3 cups chopped cooked chicken
¾ cup cooked chopped bacon
2 to 3 Tbsp ranch dressing mix
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375ºF. Lightly spray a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine Alfredo sauce, chicken, bacon, ½ cup cheddar cheese, and Ranch dressing mix. Add pierogies and toss to coat.
Pour pierogies into prepared pan. Top with remaining cheddar cheese.
Bake, uncovered, for 35 to 45 minutes.

Notes

  • Pierogi Selection: Although classic cheddar pierogies are recommended for their compatibility with the other ingredients, feel free to experiment with various fillings to tailor the dish to your tastes. The key is to ensure the pierogies are thawed if frozen, to achieve even cooking.
  • Chicken Preparation: Using rotisserie chicken not only saves time but also adds a deeper flavor to the casserole. However, any leftover or pre-cooked chicken will work just as well.
  • Bacon Tips: For a crispier texture, cook the bacon until it’s just shy of your preferred crispness level before adding it to the casserole, as it will continue to cook in the oven.
  • Freezing and Reheating: This casserole freezes beautifully. If freezing, omit the final cheese layer until you’re ready to bake. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, add the cheese, and bake as directed, adding a few extra minutes if needed.
  • Alfredo Sauce Alternatives: If Alfredo sauce isn’t to your taste or you’re looking for a lighter option, consider substitutes like homemade béchamel or a simple mix of Greek yogurt and chicken broth. Adjust seasonings as needed to complement the other ingredients.
  • Serving Suggestions: While this casserole is a hearty meal on its own, serving it with a light salad or steamed vegetables can balance the richness and add a fresh element to your meal.
