  • Author: Naomi
  • Total Time: 25 min

Description

Golden, crunchy wonton wrappers cradle a luscious cheesecake filling studded with fresh strawberries. A quick fry transforms them into bite-sized desserts that are creamy on the inside and delightfully crisp outside. Finish with a dusting of powdered sugar (and an optional strawberry dipping sauce) for an irresistible sweet treat!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cheesecake Filling

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened

  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp fresh lemon zest

  • ½ cup (75 g) finely diced strawberries

For Assembly & Frying

  • 24 wonton wrappers

  • 1 large egg, beaten (for sealing)

  • Vegetable oil, for deep-frying (about 2 cups)

For the Strawberry Dipping Sauce (Optional)

  • ½ cup strawberry jam

  • 12 tbsp water

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

For Garnish

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

  • Fresh mint leaves (optional)

Instructions

Make the Filling:

  • In a medium bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth.

  • Add sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest; mix until creamy.

  • Gently fold in the diced strawberries.

2️⃣ Assemble the Wontons:

  • Lay out a wonton wrapper on a clean surface.

  • Place about 1 tsp of filling in the center.

  • Brush the wrapper edges with beaten egg.

  • Fold into a triangle, pressing out any air, and press edges firmly to seal.

  • Optionally, bring the two corner points together and seal with a dab of egg for a “purse” shape.

3️⃣ Prepare the Dipping Sauce (If Using):

  • In a small saucepan over low heat, whisk together strawberry jam, water, and lemon juice until smooth and slightly thinned.

  • Keep warm on very low heat, stirring occasionally.

4️⃣ Heat the Oil:

  • In a heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet, pour oil to a depth of about 2 inches.

  • Heat over medium-high until it reaches 350 °F (175 °C) on a candy or instant-read thermometer.

5️⃣ Fry the Wontons:

  • Fry in batches of 4–6, turning occasionally, until golden brown and puffed, about 1–2 minutes per side.

  • Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a paper-lined plate to drain.

6️⃣ Garnish & Serve:

  • While still warm, dust wontons generously with powdered sugar.

  • Arrange on a platter with mint leaves, and serve alongside the strawberry dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Air-Fryer Option: Preheat to 375 °F (190 °C). Spray wontons lightly with oil and cook 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway.

  • Make-Ahead: Fill and seal wontons up to 2 hours ahead; keep covered in the fridge on a parchment-lined tray.

  • Flavor Twist: Swap strawberries for raspberries or blueberries, or fold in mini chocolate chips.

  • Healthier Shortcut: Brush lightly with oil and bake at 400 °F (200 °C) for 8–10 minutes until crisp.

  • Dairy-Free: Use a plant-based cream cheese substitute and vegan jam.

Enjoy these bite-sized, creamy-crisp delights fresh and hot for the ultimate sweet crunch!
