  • Author: Naomi
  • Total Time: 45 min

Description

This Savory Cabbage Beef Bake is a comforting, one-dish meal that layers seasoned ground beef, tender cabbage, and a tomato-rich sauce under a blanket of melty cheese. It’s budget-friendly, family-approved, and packed with flavor—perfect for a hearty dinner with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped

  • 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained

  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2️⃣ Cook the beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef with diced onion until beef is browned and onion is soft. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and paprika.

3️⃣ Add cabbage and tomatoes: Stir in the chopped cabbage, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is slightly tender.

4️⃣ Assemble the bake: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top evenly with shredded cheese.

5️⃣ Bake: Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the cabbage is fully tender.

6️⃣ Cool and serve: Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with crusty bread or a simple green salad.

Notes

  • Low-carb option: Skip the tomato sauce and reduce tomatoes slightly for a keto-friendly version.

  • Make it ahead: Assemble the bake up to a day in advance, then bake when ready to serve.

  • Cheese variations: Use sharp cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a cheese blend to customize the flavor.
