Smash Burger Tacos

  • Author: Christine

Description

Smash Burger Tacos are a delightful fusion of two comfort food classics: the juicy, flavorful elements of a smash burger combined with the fun and convenience of a taco. This recipe takes ground beef, spreads it thinly over flour tortillas, and cooks it to perfection, creating a crispy, golden-brown crust on one side while the tortilla remains soft and slightly crisp. Topped with a tangy homemade burger sauce, melted cheese, and fresh toppings like lettuce, onions, and pickles, these tacos are the perfect blend of flavors and textures. They are ideal for casual dinners, family meals, or gatherings with friends.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Sauce / Big Mac Sauce:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons pickle relish
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Tacos:

  • 4 Flour tortillas, 6 inches in size
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, both to taste
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
  • 4 slices American Cheese (or your preferred cheese on a burger)
  • 1 small onion diced
  • Dill pickle chips
  • shredded iceberg lettuce

Instructions

  1. Begin by portioning the ground beef into 4 equal amounts.
  2. Place a tortilla on your work surface and evenly spread one portion of ground beef over its entire surface, ensuring coverage.
  3. Season the upper side of the ground beef with a good amount of salt and pepper to suit your taste.
  4. Heat a skillet or griddle to medium-high heat and lightly coat the cooking surface with oil.
  5. Gently lay the tortilla with the meat-side down onto the heated surface, applying slight pressure with a spatula for a brief moment to form a thin patty.
  6. Allow the patty to cook for approximately 2 – 3 minutes, until a delightful golden-brown crust forms. At this point, flip the patty and crown it with a slice of cheese.
  7. Continue the cooking process for an additional 1 – 3 minutes, depending on your desired level of tortilla crispness. Exercise caution to avoid any charring.
  8. Remove the smash taco burger from the heat.
  9. Repeat the cooking process for each taco.
  10. Assemble the smash taco burgers adding the burger sauce, lettuce, onions, and pickles.
  11. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

This recipe is highly customizable. Feel free to substitute the ground beef with leaner meats like turkey or chicken, or even use a plant-based meat alternative. The burger sauce can be prepared in advance, making it convenient for busy days. Additionally, you can experiment with different types of cheese, tortillas, and toppings to suit your taste preferences. If you prefer a smoky flavor, try grilling the tacos instead of cooking them in a skillet. Just be sure to monitor the heat closely to avoid burning the tortillas.
