Ingredients

  • 8 ounces penne or rotini pasta
  • 1 pound Italian or chicken sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente according to package directions, typically 8–10 minutes. Drain but do not rinse. Set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and caramelized. Reduce heat to medium-low, add the minced garlic, and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes if using. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the sausage and garlic. Simmer, stirring frequently, for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the sausage.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the skillet. Gently toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sausage and sauce. Continue cooking over medium heat for 2–3 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Remove the skillet from heat. Garnish the pasta with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately.
